The Canary Derby

Description

The Canary Derby is a boxcar racing extravaganza in support of the Canary Foundation and the BC Cancer Foundation. Last year’s Derby was a huge success with over 500 people attending the race and with over $47,000 raised in the technology community. This year the goals are set even higher with a target over $100,000.

With bigger goals came a need for improved exposure, and that included a new website. We were approached by VIATeC to re-design the Canary Derby website in February 2007.

We gladly agreed to do so as volunteers and event sponsors, more than happy to assist this great cause. With the event occurring in June, they needed the site up quickly in order to maximize their time to reach sponsors and to get teams to join. With that in mind, we were given one month to complete the project.

We created a site for them with a warm colour palette and a very light, fun feel to it that corresponded with the event itself. We also created a pretty keen custom illustration on the homepage of this year’s racers in action. On top of the re-design and custom graphics, the site was given a clean, easy-to-read layout that would display the very important information regarding cancer research and derby participation. Finally, the all-important link to the participants donation page was incorporated.

We are sure that the combination of a terrific cause with improved exposure and web presence will lead to a banner year for the Derby, and for the BC Cancer Foundation.
