Helping Build Your Future, Atomic-Style

Atomic Crayon has gone back to school with their release of the new CMS-integrated Fanshawe College website.

Fanshawe College is a post-secondary institution offering well over 100 programs leading to certificates, diplomas and degrees. Fanshawe is one of the largest colleges in Ontario with a community focus and campuses located in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Woodstock and smaller centres in Tillsonburg and Strathroy. It has over 14,000 full-time students and 300 international students from more than 30 countries.

Fanshawe contacted us in May 2007, looking for help on how to integrate their new web design into a content management system. With courses and faculty changing frequently, staff wanted the ability to easily update their website themselves. Targeting the 18-25 market, Fanshawe had created a slick new website, featuring a flowing design and a wealth of Flash and video. This design required complex CMS templates and a thorough strategy for ensuring the design was perfectly implemented.

Working together, we selected and implemented ElementCMS as the best and most robust content management solution for the college. Once the system was selected, it involved creation of unique templates for over 2,000 webpages, many of which had to take the site’s advanced and customized functionality into consideration.

Having a long-distance client located in Ontario added to the list of considerations for the site. With Atomic staff located in Ontario and our Victoria staff available for Eastern time zone hours, we worked with the college’s staff to ensure everything was exactly the way the wanted it, and that the site went up as smooth as silk. Fanshawe staff have been updating the website regularly, the site looks great, and we didn’t even have to do any extra homework!

Go Quest, Young Man!

The City of Spruce Grove is a community of over 19,500, located 11km west of Edmonton, Alberta. Joining our ever-expanding list of municipal clients, Spruce Grove recently awarded us their MetroQuest project after a thorough bidding process. We accepted our win with our typical good graces - “They like us! They really like us!” Sally Field, eat your heart out.

The purpose of the City of Spruce Grove’s MetroQuest project (SpruceGroveQuest) is to provide long-range direction on the policy required for sustainable community development. This project requires a website which will provide education to the public and receive input in return to aid the public engagement process. This will help facilitate public participation in the direction of future policies. In essence, the site will act as a communication anchor to engage and promote the project.

Input by residents who participate in the sessions will determine the outcome of the model in 2041, giving a snapshot of what Spruce Grove might look like based on policy decisions made now. With this large-scale public participation session happening in late Spring, expect a snazzy new website coming in early 2008!

Atomic makes a Splash with new website!

Andrew Sheret Limited has specialized in and distributed a variety of products in several fields since 1892, some of which include: Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, Fireplaces, Irrigation, Pumps, Water filtration, Industrial and Water Works. There are currently twenty one locations throughout British Columbia.

Andrew Sheret Ltd approached Atomic Crayon in the summer of 2007 looking for a new website for their kitchen and bathroom division, a child company known as Splashes. Splashes features a dazzling product showroom and personalized consultations to ensure customers get their dream kitchen or bathroom.

When Andrew Sheret decided they wanted to place additional focus on Splashes, they knew that meant an increase in marketing and with that, a hot new website. Over the next 3 months we created a sleek new site for Splashes which showed off their amazing product line in a manner befitting the products themselves. Customized Google Maps, a slick internal menu system and a polished new look all harmonized to create a sophisticated new site. The site and the products look so good, it made us here at Atomic want to get a new kitchen! Now, if we only knew how to cook…

Atomic adds some local flavor

And yet another municipality has been added into the Atomic fold. Now being entered into our municipal docket is the District of Sooke. Located on Vancouver Island, the District of Sooke is a short 35-minute drive from downtown Victoria. With a population of approximately 12,000, residents of the District enjoy a casual, rural lifestyle that still affords them many of the amenities of city life. Sooke selected us to work with them as they were impressed by our municipal website experience and, in keeping with their community spirit, they liked the fact that our company was locally grown.

Though the District of Sooke may not be large, they have expectations to transform their online presence and services into a website befitting a much larger city. We at Atomic have been enlisted to provide a complete overhaul of the District’s site architecture, create a brand new website design, and to integrate our content management system, ElementCMS. This combination of services should give the District a prominent web presence.

Atomic Goes Back to School

It’s back to school for the Atomic team! We have just catalogued a project with the UVic McPherson Library to re-design their current website. The University of Victoria is one of Canada’s leading universities and has earned a reputation for commitment to research, scholarship and co-op education. The McPherson Library is the main building amongst UVic’s libraries, which contain over 1.9 million volumes, 2.3 million items in microforms, 40,000 serial subscriptions, 66,000 sound recordings, and much more. That’s a lot of reading!

The main focus of the project is to provide a website that will appeal to current students, grads and faculty. This is no short order considering the breadth of Internet knowledge this audience possesses, and the medley of designs that would appeal to such a varied group of people. In addition, we will be integrating the new design with the extensive database search of articles, journals and books.

An exciting challenge, this is a test we are sure to pass with flying colours. As opposed to Biology 301.

Look for the new website in the first quarter of 2008.

Atomic Goes Coastal!

Bolstering our already impressive list of municipal clients, Atomic Crayon is very excited to add the City of Nanaimo to the lineup. After a detailed RFP process and an awe-striking presentation that contained literally everything from a light show to live elephants (ok, not literally), we outshone our competitors and won the bid.

Nanaimo, the Harbour City, is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, 111 km north of Victoria. The City has boomed over the past decade and now has a population over 78,000. With the added responsibility of becoming a quickly-growing city, Nanaimo has put itself on the forefront of municipal services for its constituents. Their site has a wealth of user-friendly applications and is an excellent source of information; what they need is someone to tie it all together and put it in a pretty package. That’s where we come in.

Atomic has been hired for a wide variety of services that include a re-design and custom application integration, along with the implementation of our ElementCMS content management system and integration with Sharepoint, a document management solution. We can really do it all! (elephants cost extra)

Atomic speaks the International Language!

Atomic is finally living the rock and roll dream! Following in the footsteps of a million unknown rock bands, we too can now issue the exclamation: “We are big in Japan!” Due to our combination of awards and accolades, alongside our strong portfolio, we were recently approached from overseas by Honda Japan. Honda Japan is the Japanese arm of the multinational automobile manufacturing giant, and is based out of Tokyo.

Atomic will be working with Honda Japan’s marketing team in order to provide services for their Intranet site. This project will require a variety of services that include our unique blend of design, coding and consulting for usability. One of the many advantages of the computer age is that it has provided a worldwide marketplace; we here at Atomic are glad to be working with Honda Japan to be taking full advantage of our ever-shrinking planet.

Keep the Accolades Coming!

At the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention held in Vancouver September 24-28, the District of Maple Ridge was announced a winner in UBCM’s Community Excellence Awards Program. The award was given for District’s terrific new website, and for their demonstration of leadership and innovation. The Community Excellence Awards Program encourages local governments to showcase best practices that rise above others with vision, creativity and teamwork, and that furthermore can be a model for other municipalities.

Atomic Crayon is very proud to be able to share some of the credit for this prestigious award for the District’s website. Why? We designed it! Not only did we create the design for the site, Atomic devised a Strategic Technical Plan based on the information provided to us by the District’s exceptionally proficient Website Committee. We followed the STP with a review of the City’s hardware and software infrastructure, streamlining the website’s architecture and creating customized features including: RFP and Tender Components, a Javascript-powered sitemap and a bespoke Community Events calendar.

We worked hand in hand with the District staff to create a great website; they were able to discern exactly what their constituents would want and need, and by clearly relaying that information to us, we were able to create a website that would make it happen. The District’s visitors and constituents are certainly happy and the UBCM were clearly impressed: Congratulations to the District of Maple Ridge (and a cheeky pat on the back for ourselves).

Atomic tastes the spice of life!

In October 2004, a new partnership between government and non-government organizations (NGOs) called the B.C. Conservation Lands Forum was announced. The Forum’s biodiversity conservation mandate includes securing and improving the management of private and public lands as well as developing a comprehensive, science-based biodiversity action plan for BC. From this Forum, Biodiversity BC was borne.

With Canada’s ever-growing focus on the environment, Biodiversity BC knew that people were keen to hear their message - what they need was an excellent way of conveying it. They originally approached us in November 2006 looking into a new website. What they needed was a site that held a wealth of information regarding multiple government agencies, scientists and organizations. The site needed to feature lots of imagery from a variety of biozones, and its prime focus was to keep the public informed. Oh yeah, and it had to look really cool. Luckily, these tasks were right up our alley.

Over a six month timeframe, we created a great-looking website with a clean layout that would make the pertinent scientific information easy to find, and to read. We integrated our Element Content Management System, thereby empowering the client to easily update the website themselves. We also added in new, customized functionality that attractively displays information regarding the biozone photos. And the site looks cool.

Atomic gears up for the Tour de Rock

From September 22nd - October 6th, the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Tour is best described as a team of police officers who gather from up and down Vancouver Island, volunteering their time and cycling as a team from one end of the Island to the other, over 15 days. They stop in just about every community to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Last year the Tour collected over $1.6 million, making it the second largest fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.

With such a fantastic cause to get behind, we here at Atomic were extremely happy to volunteer our time and services in order to create a website that will help the Canadian Cancer Society exceed their fundraising goals. To help the cause, we created a dandy new website with a handsome design and featuring individual rider profiles. These profiles allow each rider to display their own info and writeup, thereby allowing people to find out more about the riders, and to donate easily and help raise funds.

We also set up a donations and auctions page, which allows people to bid on items such as a front yard makeover, cycling helmets, concerts and a wine tour, with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

High spirits, fun times and an excellent cause.

Thinking outside the box… in a Box

PR in a Box is a public relations company that was started with their customers in mind. It is a premium PR toolkit that provides quick, simple, customized PR solutions for any business in any location. In their package, there are 10 simple Modules that combine to create a comprehensive, effective and simple public relations plan.

Realizing that one needs to market themselves well if they expect other people to use and trust their PR materials, PR in a Box contacted us in order to create a swish new website for their toolkit. Over a three-month timeframe, we produced a site with a bright, iconic look that was filled with a wealth of handy functionality.

These features are highlighted by an e-commerce component with a customized shopping cart in which our client can modify products themselves and limit the number of downloads. The site also integrates Wordpress, a web-based tool that allows our client to publish directly to the web themselves, thereby increasing their autonomy.

Furthermore, we worked on SEO (search engine optimization) for the site, ensuring that they jump up the search engine rankings and maximize their hits. With a sexy, new optimized site and a hot web presence, we have ensured PR in a Box’s public relations have increased, so that they can do the same for your company.

Atomic Wins Big!

We are very happy to announce that at last night’s VIATeC Awards, Atomic came up with a huge victory, taking home the coveted Online Strategy of the Year Award. The award was accorded for our work on the website for The District of Maple Ridge.

Over the past year, we created an exceptionally thorough strategy for Maple Ridge, one that allowed the District to promote themselves in a modern and attractive manner. The full strategy included - get ready for a big list - creation of a Strategic Technical Plan; a comprehensive software and hardware infrastructure review; a complete revision of the site’s structure, streamlining it for ease of use; customized RFP and Tender components; a nifty JavaScript-powered sitemap; a fully integrated newsletter tool; a CSS-driven photo gallery; and a customized Community Events calendar. We also integrated the ElementCMS content management system and included the option of RSS feeds for important news items. Whew!

We were very proud of the breadth of our strategy and the quality with which it was actualized. VIATeC agreed, which makes us even prouder!

Atomic Wins Big - Part 2!

On top of taking home the Online Strategy of the Year Award last night, our very own Noah Wheelock won this year’s Employee of the Year Award! He was selected from a number of great candidates, but was picked specifically for his great customer service and his extensive skill set that allows Atomic to bring in more and different clients than ever before. These skills include: managing, writing, filming, editing, designing and possessing a wicked foosball wrist-shot. Congratulations to Noah!

And finally: For the first time, this year’s VIATeC awards featured an audience participation award - it was the TechTube Video Award, and the challenge was to make a short video convincing tech workers that Vancouver Island was the best place to live and work. Naturally, we already agreed. But always ones to take on a fun challenge, we entered the competition creating a series of ads parodying the Mac vs PC commercials, each of them extolling the virtues of Vancouver Island.

Caorda Solutions took home the trophy with a great video that convinced all of us here at Atomic to sell our places and move to Victoria… and we already live here!

The hills are alive… with a new website!

On January 1st 2007, Pitt Meadows became the newest city in British Columbia. Moving on up from their previous status as a District, they were very proud to become The City of Pitt Meadows. To celebrate this great news, they picked April 25th - the 93rd anniversary of their original incorporation - to organize a party, a press conference… and to release a flashy new website!

Selected after an extensive search, Atomic Crayon was chosen to provide a re-design for Pitt Meadows and to implement a content management system (CMS) for them. Our work for the City included: Reviewing site architecture; Site planning; Functionality analysis; Creation of a new navigation structure; and Website re-design. Finally, there was an enterprise-level CMS integration.

The website featured a bright, attractive new design to accompany a wealth of improved functionality. A bevy of online services, a powerful Events calendar, and a dynamic News listing were just a few of their favourite things.

We’ve officially lost that Lucci feeling. After finishing second in three of the past four years, we are very proud to announce that we have won the 2007 Victoria Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year!

The Chamber confers three Business of the Year awards, divvied up based on size of company; this year, we ended up tops in our category. We took home our award based on our high standard of customer service, the quality of our work and company growth over the last twelve months. This win has given us pride, enhanced self-esteem… and a nifty little award, to boot. We would like to send out a big congratulations to all the other winners and finalists.

Plus, we figured: if Scorcese could do it this year, why not us?

On your marks, get set… Tweet!

Rev up your engines and get ready for this year’s Canary Derby - a boxcar racing extravaganza in support of the Canary Foundation and the BC Cancer Foundation. Last year’s Derby was a huge success with over 500 people attending the race and with over $47,000 raised in the techonology community. This year the goals are set even higher with a target over $100,000.

With bigger goals came a need for improved exposure, and that included a new website. When we were contacted to design the site we gladly did so as volunteers and event sponsors, more than happy to assist this great cause. We created a site for them with a warm colour palette and a very light, fun feel to it that corresponded with the event itself. We also created a pretty keen custom illustration on the homepage of this year’s racers in action. Sadly, that’s our car off in last place. (Accuracy is important to us!)

Maple Ridge - The Place to Live, Work, Play… and Surf!

Our tradition of strong Municipal work marches on with the release of the brand new website for the District of Maple Ridge. What began eight months ago with a comprehensive Strategic Technical Plan has blossomed into one of our most comprehensive web projects to date.

We started with an expansive review of their previous website, including a thorough analysis of their software and hardware infrastructure. We shored up their navigation system, reducing it from 850 pages to 675, and improving the organization along the way; this will allow site visitors to find what they want in fewer clicks, and in a more logical manner.

As for the new site itself? It’s aces. It’s features include a customized component for RFPs and Tenders, a CSS-driven photo gallery, a javascript-powered sitemap, a bespoke Community Events calendar, and a fully integrated newsletter tool. Maple Ridge’s new branding and imagery have been blended seamlessly into their site’s re-design. The site has been created using the ElementCMS content management system, thereby allowing District employees the power to update the website themselves. And the new site can be viewed on handheld devices, and visitors are given the option of signing up for handy RSS feeds, to boot.

We could go on, but we don’t want to look like we’re grandstanding. We’ll let our work do that for us!

In Atomic We Trust

Our most recent project - the new Enterra Energy Trust website - has now gone live. For this project we took on the challenge of taking an existing design and fashioning it into a lean, mean and super-functional website. Atomic created the page templates for this site and incorporated them within a content management system, thereby granting Enterra staff the power to update the website themselves. Within the creation of these new templates, we developed the site to work within the latest and greatest CSS and web accessibility standards.

For this project, we have also continued our strong tradition of working with Muze Creative, who developed the branding, corporate identity and site design for Enterra. Enterra Energy Trust is a conventional oil and gas trust based in Calgary, Alberta. The Trust acquires, operates, and exploits petroleum and natural gas assets principally in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, Canada and in the states of Oklahoma and Wyoming, United States of America.

Atomic Crayon Paints The Town Red

Industrial Plastics & Paint is chain of outlet stores located throughout Western Canada, and one of the few companies that loves playing with colour as much as we do. This made winning the contract to re-design their website a lot of fun - we had a whole palatte of colours with which to work, so we got out our crayons and started doodling!

Completing a contract we began in August, we not only gave a bright, vibrant re-design to the IPP site, we also re-structured their website in order to better showcase their products. This combination of re-organization and re-design allowed the site to look sharper and be more efficient, all in one fell swoop. We also developed an intranet for IPP and implemented ElementCMS, a content management system, to work both with the website and the intranet. This CMS allows the staff at IPP to update information themselves, along with their extensive product list.

Bright, beautiful and dynamic. And we’re not even talking about ourselves. (For once.)

Our proud tradition of work with municipalities grows ever-stronger with our new website win for the District of Pitt Meadows. Selected after an extensive search, Atomic Crayon has been chosen both to provide a re-design for the District and to implement a content management system (CMS) for them.

We Win Again! Atomic to Re-design Maple Ridge Site

Continuing our strong tradition of Municipal work, Atomic is proud to announce we have been selected to re-design the website for the District of Maple Ridge. Our partnership with Maple Ridge began earlier this year when we conducted a Strategic Technical Plan for the District. This plan involved a comprehensive review of their current website, and a thorough analysis of their software and hardware infrastructure, as well as of their policies and processes.

The District was extremely happy with the work we had completed on the STP and opted to continue our relationship by having us re-design their website. For both contracts, our body of work and our technical expertise helped us to beat out stiff competition from larger companies on the mainland and beyond. Swish new design coming this winter!

Atomic Gives QV Hotel & Suites The Royal Treatment

Here at Atomic Crayon, we definitely are amused to find ourselves as the new web development provider for the Queen Victoria Hotel and Suites. Selected from dozens of candidates, the Queen Victoria chose us due to our design capabilities and the consistently high standard of development work we have completed in the past. We have been hired to determine a comprehensive online strategy for the QV, including a web strategy analysis, web statistics breakdown and a thorough review of their site architecture.

Located in downtown Victoria, the 3.5 Star, 146-room hotel is the only hotel in the city surrounded by parks. The Queen Victoria is ideally located, directly across the street from the Royal BC Museum and just a few steps away from Victoria’s famous Inner Harbour, shopping attractions and restaurants are all with in walking distance. The Queen Victoria is also very proud to be Victoria’s largest independent hotel.

See Business Thrive With The Fast 25

Atomic Crayon is extremely proud to announce we are co-sponsoring this year’s TC Fast 25 Awards. Working in partnership with the Times-Colonist and KPMG, the TC Fast 25 is a new awards program that applauds the efforts of those outstanding businesses on Vancouver Island that are showing exceptional growth. These businesses can come from a wide variety of fields.

Nominees must have had their head office on Vancouver Island from 2003-2005 and must be incorporated. Names of all the companies on the Fast 25 list will be announced at a gala event on September 20, 2006, and the Fast 25 businesses will be profiled in a Times Colonist special section. Nominations are free and must be received by July 26th.

Atomic was asked to co-sponsor this event as we had been recognized as one of Vancouver Island’s fastest-growing companies ourselves. New Hydroxyl Website Launched

In late November, we received an e-mail from Hydroxyl Systems Inc. seeking a new website design and an increase in their site’s functionality. They were very impressed with our portfolio and selected us to work with them on a re-design. Hydroxyl engineers, designs, manufactures, and installs advanced biological wastewater treatment and advanced oxidation technology process equipment. They have just recently been awarded their largest contract ever, a $6-million contract to supply waste-water treatment systems for two of Royal Caribbean Cruises’ vessels.

We set to task to design an exceptionally stylish, highly functional website for this very successful company. Incorporating the company’s re-branding, as designed by Muze Creative, we set about re-designing Hydroxyl’s site and updating their site architecture. The site was coded using the latest standards. Functionality included a blogging tool for posting news releases, and a custom script that extracts the latest news postings automatically to the home page. Google maps are also integrated within the site allowing map searching within the context of the design. We also incorporated a third-party newsletter system to manage e-newsletter signups.

The Sun Is Out and Atomic Shines Through!

Great news! We have just found out that we have been chosen as a finalist for Website/Online Strategy of the Year in the 2006 VIATeC Technology Awards. We were selected for the work we completed this year on the Corporation of Delta’s website. For this comprehensive web project, we performed detailed IT research, re-designed their site, created a new navigation system, updated content, produced custom-made, dynamic applications, trained staff, and implemented a content management system that allows municipal employees to update the website themselves. A New Face For Victoria’s Favourite Meeting Place

Atomic Crayon is pleased to announce the release of the latest website for the Victoria Conference Centre! Conveniently located beside the Empress Hotel, the Conference Centre holds meetings of all sizes. The Centre has 40,000 square feet of meeting space, 16 multi-purpose meeting rooms, a large exhibit hall, and a 400-seat lecture theatre. Last year the ever-popular Centre contracted 110,900 delegate days (the number of delegates multiplied by the number of days at the VCC).

A client of ours since 2001, the VCC had recently been looking for an updated design to their website. The initial re-design was created by Victoria company, Trapeze; we took that design and implemented it to fashion the new, live site. The site features a database-driven Calendar of Events to let visitors know what conventions and meetings are upcoming. It also promotes a comprehensive list of amenities - both of the Conference Centre and of Victoria itself. And the highlight of the new site: There is now also a powerful Room Finder that allows potential meeting organizers to view the specs on all meeting rooms, and to search for rooms by both size and shape.

Thinking Outside the Sandbox

When the Greater Victoria Early Childhood Community Coalition (GVECC) notified us that they were seeking a website that deals with young children, we knew we were the right team for the job. After a quick celebratory trip on the backyard Slip’n’Slide, we got down to business. The GVECC needed a complete overhaul: they needed new branding, a new website and even were looking for a new name. We dextrously achieved all these objectives.

For the new name, we here at Atomic put our collective heads together and came up with the acronym PLAY (Partnership in Learning and Advocacy for Young children), which the GVECC loved. Once the name was agreed upon, we designed a fun and energetic new logo that reflected perfectly the energy of the children they support. With the new name and logo in place, we created a new website for PLAY, and added all the increased functionality that they required.

The site is sleek, practical, informative and, most importantly, fun.

Atomic to Re-design Hydroxyl Website

In late November, we received an e-mail from Hydroxyl Systems Inc. letting us know that they were in search of a new website design. They were very impressed with our portfolio and selected us to work with them on a re-design for their site. Hydroxyl engineers, designs, manufactures, and installs advanced biological wastewater treatment and advanced oxidation technology process equipment. They have just recently been awarded their largest contract ever, a $6-million contract to supply waste-water treatment systems for two of Royal Caribbean Cruises’ vessels.

With significant new contracts such as Royal Caribbean Cruises, Hydroxyl knew they had to improve their branding and exposure to help stay at the forefront of their industry. For this project, we have partnered with Muze Creative - also from Victoria - who are re-branding Hydroxyl’s corporate identity for them. The new website will now feature video, mapping, a subscription-based newsletter, an administrator’s section, a search engine and a blog. Oh yeah, and a swish new design, too.

Atomic Crayon Finds Fame and Fortune in the Times-Colonist

On February 11th, 2006, the Victoria Times-Colonist published an article in their Business section about yours truly, Atomic Crayon. The article featured a company overview by business writer Andrew A. Duffy and an interview with the two directors and co-owners of Atomic, Dale Campbell and Ryan Cawker. There was focus on our modest beginnings, our current successes and our plans for future expansion. It also discussed our intentions to grab a foothold in the booming American municipal market.

We are glad to say that the article was an altogether glowing one. The Times-Colonist has one of the highest readerships of any metro newspaper in the country with over 74% of Victoria residents reading it every week. We knew how wonderful we are; now you do too!

Atomic Crayon Refurbishes Proline Website

The recent housing boom has taken British Columbia by storm. And with increased market comes increased competition. Proline Property Managers is a Victoria-based company that realized they needed to update in order to keep a step ahead of their ever-expanding competition.

Proline were already a client of ours, and clearly a satisfied one, as they asked us to re-design their website for them in early 2006. Not only did they need a full re-design, but they also wanted a customized, web-based property listing and management tool. This tool allows the constantly fluctuating list of properties to be updated in a simple, unique and attractive manner. Combined with the new site design, the look is sharp and is keeping Proline at the forefront of the Island’s property management competition.

Atomic Develops New Site for City of Langley

The City of Langley has one of the most active industrial and service commercial land bases found in the Lower Mainland Economic Region. Langley’s Economic Development Department realized their city’s numerous benefits and posted an RFP (which we won), seeking a way to champion them online. They sought a mini-site that fostered the development of the City, with the aim of selling Langley as a place to move, both for businesses and potential residents.

The City has recently invested in new branding that promotes Langley with a fresh, original approach. The mini-site was to be designed in a fashion that complemented that new brand by incorporating the newly selected colours and style. Our job was to use these new design guidelines while presenting the City’s development information in a crisp, inviting manner. That was the challenge. This is our success:

Complete Branding Overhaul of FRAPC to be Performed by Atomic

The Fraser Region Aboriginal Planning Committee is an association that represents all Aboriginal peoples in the Fraser Region, both on and off reserve. It respects their cultures and traditions, in the process of developing an Aboriginal Authority, an Authority based on Aboriginal principles, values and traditions.

FRAPC came to us after a high recommendation from a previous client, seeking a new site design and a full Corporate Identification review. Furthermore, they required these components on an accelerated development time-frame (aka. Double-quick!) We promptly returned to them a new letterhead and custom-designed envelope, along with a brand new website. They were so impressed with our work that we are now also working on a new logo for them.

Extra! Extra! Atomic Crayon and Times-Colonist team up!

Atomic Crayon is happy to announce that we have created a brand new mini-site for the Victoria Times-Colonist, a newspaper with one of the highest readerships of any metro newspaper in the country. The site’s intention is to provide businesses with incentive to advertise with the T-C.

The parameters: To design the site within the constraints of an existing template used by the parent company of Canadawest Mediaworks.com. The challenge: To use this template and still ensure the mini-site had its own unique personality. The site we created uses a fresh design and presents information about the Times-Colonist’s readership, community involvement, and the high work standard that has made them so successful. All of these facets have provided potential advertisers with ample reason to work with the Times-Colonist. Judging by the paper’s ongoing success, this site is definitely doing the trick.

New Environmental Sensors Inc Website Now Live

Innovative technology deserves innovative design. This is exactly the alliance Atomic Crayon and Environmental Sensors Inc have forged. Since 1973, ESI has been involved in the development and commercialisation of environmental sensors and systems used in the precise monitoring of water, its presence and movement. Their sensors and systems have been lauded as global forerunners for this technology.

ESI approached us in summer 2005 seeking a new and improved design that befitted the company’s level of innovation. For the new design, we improved navigation, fleshed out previously existing content, and gave the site a complete visual overhaul. We selected a colour palette that incorporated the company’s existing logo and coupled it with the cast of the natural landscape that ESI works with. This combination created a sharp, personal design that flawlessly matches the company ethos.

Atomic Cleans Up With Alpine Building Maintenance

Alpine Building Maintenance Inc. provides custodial services for approximately two million square feet of commercial office buildings on a daily basis. It is their commitment to excellence and to their customers that brought them to Atomic.

In October 2005, Alpine had realized that their website simply didn’t possess the standard of quality that their company and employees did. So they came to us. What we did was tighten up their pre-existing content and created a design that was as clean and efficient as the office space they work on.

Brand New Website for Delta Launched

After a wealth of designing, writing, editing and programming, Atomic Crayon is happy to announce the right-on-schedule release of Delta’s new website. Last year, we fended off the competition to win the Corporation of Delta’s RFP to create their new website, and this year we have put the pedal to the floor and got this king-sized site re-designed and up for your enjoyment!

We have been working hard to make this site live and with the aid of Delta staff, who have been matching us keystroke-for-keystroke over the past few months, we created a site that everyone is very excited about. For Delta, we not only fashioned a smashing new layout, but we also constructed the site with a new Content Management System: the entire site was built using NetImage’s custom-made ElementCMS. Employing ElementCMS’ functionality, we devised a site that will be a cinch for Delta’s employees to update. The site structure is also extremely easy to navigate and alter as necessary. All that, and it’s really darn pretty, too.

Atomic Crayon Wins VIATeC Website of the Year!

Atomic Crayon is extremely proud to announce that we have won this year’s VIATeC Website/Online Strategy of the Year award. The award was achieved for our work on Thrifty Foods’ “Our Team” website.

Fending off stiff competition from other local design companies, the work we completed for Thrifty Foods proved to be exceptional. The “Our Team” area of the website was designed in order to allow information to be shared among staff, to create a feeling of community and to serve as a platform for staff to participate.

Features that we developed for this award-winning website include: Online Job Postings; An Event Calendar for staff functions; Staff Contests; Smile Seller staff classifieds; An online forum, “Beefs and Bouquets”; and a start-up page that provides the latest Thrifty news and a link to a personal inbox. And that’s just for starters. We’d write about all the other things we did, too, but we’re running out of space!

Not to blow our own horns too much here, but on top of releasing our brand new website, Atomic Crayon and Netimage Media have just won the 2005 VIATec Technology Partnership Award! The award was achieved due to the ability of the two companies to draw on each other’s strengths so as to create the best possible work for our clients. Atomic Crayon Wins Corporation of Delta RFP

We are happy to announce that after an intense RFP Process by the Corporation of Delta, Atomic Crayon has been selected to provide Delta with a brand identity review, website redesign and content management solution.

Chosen from amongst dozens of applicants, that featured large-scale companies from locations including Vancouver, Toronto and throughout the United States, Atomic Crayon proved to have an exceptional proposal, placing us ahead of our competition. Based on our awe-inspiring design portfolio and extensive consulting experience, Delta opted for us to produce this sizeable and diverse array of work for them.

Atomic Crayon has lengthy experience creating other municipal websites that include City of Victoria, City of Burnaby, City of Kamloops and the Corporation of the Township of Esquimalt. We have parlayed that knowledge into producing innovative and definitive work for the Corporation of Delta.

The brand identity review has already been completed and we are currently in the final stages of our design. We are also in the midst of our content integration for the redesigned site, which will become live in the upcoming months.
